Both the cis and trans women though. A pawn can move to the other side of the board and choose to become a queen instead of say a knight, and the game itself does not discriminate!

New ruling from FIDE:

Pawns are to be banned from promoting to queens, in case it encourages players to be trans.

ETA:

There are no male titles. Judit Polgar is proof of that.

FIDE are misogynistic to their core, so I guess it is no surprise that they are transphobic too.

I have a non-binary friend who plays at the national level and sometimes internationally. I bet they get given the worst option possible going forward.

What the fuck is the argument here? (I honestly struggle with why a men’s and women’s division in chess of all things exists anyway!) Are they really suggesting that men are inherently more intelligent than women? And therefore trans women have some “biological advantage?” The level of sexism on display is second only to the amount of transphobia.

That’s the chess world for ya! Just what I’ve been told from my friend about how the local chess community is like, the misogyny is really baked in pretty hard, so I’m not surprised by the transphobia, either.

A man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to charges connected to beating an 86-year-old woman suffering from early-onset dementia for 42 minutes and then pushing her into an outdoor garbage bin in Dublin, Ireland. He said he thought that she was transgender and therefore was “a predatory pedophile,” repeating language often used by anti-transgender activists.

People in criminal justice reform should work on this issue regardless of the person involved. Fairer incarceration doesn’t apply to just people we like or cis gender people. And should have been working on it for decades.

The convicted person here has stated that the judge ordered her sentence to be served in a women’s prison. If true - they’re not implementing her sentence. Which sounds like unlawful imprisonment. That should be able to be challenged in court- but probably isn’t. But hell - at least try. Maybe a Writ of Mandamus?

There’s a lot of trans women in this situation. In this case and others they’re being held in federal prisons. That comes under the Biden administration to act upon. Just as Obama commuted Chelsea Manning’s sentence- this is a time for Biden to step up and change the rules of federal incarceration with an executive order. Not to wait for years changing regulations. Which will be slow walked by prison officials and thwarted at every step.

Just as he has done for other LGBTQ injustices.

Rikers Island used to have a small wing for trans inmates. At the very least- the Feds could do this as an emergency action.
