Today in transphobia (Part 2)

Ellie Gomersall, the president of the National Union of Students in Scotland, apologized for reposting content justifying Hamas’s actions. Two days earlier, Gomersall had accused the British Labour Party leader Keir Starmer of being “complicit in the deaths of … trans people” for saying that “a woman is a female adult.” Got that? A politician with an essentialist view of womanhood is complicit in the deaths of innocents, but a terrorist indiscriminately murdering people at a music festival must be understood in context.

However, Crenshaw herself has expressed surprise at how the meaning of intersectionality has changed through its invocation in pop culture. “This is what happens when an idea travels beyond the context and the content,” she told Vox in 2019. In escaping from the academy into the mainstream, intersectionality morphed into both a crude tallying of oppression points and an assumption that social-justice struggles fit neatly together—with all of the marginalized people on one side and the powerful on the other.

That’s how you end up with Queers for Palestine when being queer in Palestine is difficult and dangerous. (In 2016, a Hamas commander was executed after being accused of theft and gay sex.) It’s also how you end up with candidates for Labour Party leadership signing a pledge that insists there “is no material conflict between trans rights and women’s rights,” even when—as in the eligibility rules for women’s sports—some wins for one group plainly come at the expense of the other.

emphasis mine

What the fuck do trans people have to do with this :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Oh, look, Helen Lewis is flagged by my transphobia addons. What a fucking surprise.

She’s a TER, she probably thinks it’s our fault when she goes to make a cup of tea and realises she has run out of sugar.

The letter, principally authored by Attorneys General Marshall, Griffin, and Skrmetti from Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee respectively, aims to reverse the Dekker decision that permits transgender adults to retain Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care. The attorneys general reference the Dobbs decision, which overturned abortion rights, eight separate times. They voice concerns that if the district court upholds Medicaid coverage, by imposing heightened scrutiny on laws affecting transgender individuals, it might similarly apply heightened scrutiny to abortion rights.

Liz Kocab, who has competed in older age brackets of women’s fencing competitions for over a decade, won her 8th world championship, over a cis woman who has won 14 times.
…
Concern that Kocab is dominating over 70s women’s fencing has led to the alarm being raised far and wide, from serious news organizations like Fox News, to the anti-woke sports blog Outkick. Even former fifth-place tying college swimmer Riley Gaines has weighed in, tweeting, “Winning a title as a male in the women’s category doesn’t make you a champion. It makes you an entitled cheat.”
…
Some people might say that the focus on the victories of trans women in specific age brackets of lesser-known sports is a sign that actual evidence of trans women’s unfair advantage in and dominance over women’s sports is unavailable. Some might speculate that this is what’s responsible for examples of anti-trans activists and news outlets sympathetic to their cause scrambling pathetically to find some weak-sauce example of a trans woman who won something, who can be held up as evidence for this nonexistent trend. Some might even say that these sorts of niche, lower-stakes competitive environments are great places to practice maximal inclusivity, because it encourages people of all shapes and sizes to be more active and challenge themselves to do their best.

Do it then asshole. Go ahead and commit a crime bad enough to land your rich ass in prison and serve your time then. No one is going to imprison you for your asshole opinions though so I guess you can’t appropriate that level of victimization… Boo hoo. I’m sure in her narcissistic fantasy everyone in the prison clapped.

The worst thing about prison was the dementors!

It’s really easy to be brave about prison when you know you’ll never go.
