It never does. A shooting rampage like this is always an irrational act of violence.
Wow, that took less than two weeks, even though the country is largely on lockdown. Nice work, Canada!
By way of comparison, Charles Whitman used a military-style assault weapon as part of a murder spree that killed the same number of people in the United States back in 1966. Still waiting on meaningful gun legislation here.
Hey, you know we tried an assault weapon ban and what happened? It resulted in 25 % fewer mass shootings and 40% drop in firearm fatalities! Sheesh. Talk about failure.
I’m horrified that you would try to politicize a tragedy so soon after it happened. /s
If it is not 100% effective, it’s not worth doing. Isn’t that how they usually frame the argument?
That and the slippery slope fears.
You know they want to take away ALL of our guns, so we can’t let them ban the sale of ANY of them!
That’s why I took the lock off my front door.
I could be wrong, but does it not seem that there have been fewer of these during lockdown? Maybe that feeds the gun nut reopen now crowd, fewer times to crow about “if they were all armed…”
one benefit of schools being shut is that there are no school shootings.
Ditto churches, concerts and pretty much any other gatherings where you could kill a bunch of people at once.
I don’t doubt that Trump will jump at the chance to claim that his administration oversaw the biggest single drop in mass shootings over the last 20+ years though.
“Can’t shoot up the mall if it’s closed, dammit!!”
Hard time see why - such a catch!
“I’m an involuntary celibate!”
“No, you’re an asshole, that’s why nobody wants you.”
But, but… he was socially awkward. I was just like that when I was a teenager/in college. It’s so unfair to demonise them as terrorists. We need to extend Incels some understanding…
Victims? Oh, sure, it’s awful that people were hurt. But back to discussing how I couldn’t get laid in high school…
OR, alternately (maybe both!)…
Look, it’s terrible, but he could have injured just as many people by pushing them into a swimming pool. Have you seen those statistics, huh? Stop blaming guns, people.
Victims? Oh, sure, it’s awful that people were hurt. But back to discussing the technical details of the latest addition to my collection of pistols…
Anyone else noticing that this nearly defunct thread is now picking up again, as lockdowns are eased?
Horrific, isn’t it?
