It’s really heart warming to see Pattinson’s journey with his career. I do admit to have written him off when Twilight came out, but seeing the diverse roles he’s taken since i’ve really come around to admiring him. This looks great.
Can’t be objective about this, because my brother wrote the book upon which this is based, but everything I hear is that it will be a great ride! In an absolutely shameless plug, the sequel, Antimatter Blues, is IMHO an even better story.
I think that someone told the movie studio executives that same thing after watching Moon, thus the fact that this movie got made.
For real? That’s cool didn’t know it was a book, i’ll put that on my book list to check out.
I JUST finished reading the book, and the sequel.
Really good. =)
Please let the movie be just as good.
Please tell him to continue the universe/series! I really enjoyed them.
Probably not gonna happen. He has great fear of falling into the George RR Martin/Robert Jordan trap of huge story lines that are impossible to land well. His new one coming out is called The Fourth Consort and is maybe his best work yet, calling back to a short story from many years ago that I loved. He has said he may revisit the universe, but will not be to continue Mickey.
Hey; I catalogued the book for the Merril Collection of SF & Fantasy. So the detailed subject headings are all mine; they never come with proper subject headings. Because Merril is a Special Collection, I was able to skim the books and get a better handle on the material than the hacks the publishers use for cataloging. I enjoyed my peek into the story.
Yeah I’ll watch it as some point and it looks like good fun, but the story itself doesn’t seem that impressive? In a lot of ways this seems like Moon crossed over into the Altered Carbon universe. As long as your backup is intact “living” isn’t that important is it?
No way! I just read that book over the summer, it was a really fun read!
I assume from this title that they upped the body count from the source material so they could show Mickey die in a larger number of ways.
He said, “I guess Bong (yes, he refers to a very well-known director by his first name) didn’t think “7” was murdery enough.” So, yep, I think that is an accurate assessment.
I’ve just bought it and I wish your brother all the success in the world!
Edit: and you too!
While I would love to say I had something to do with it, I did not. Ed gets all the credit.
I’m sure that this movie and the book that it’s based on is a fun, creative take on the idea, but isn’t the subject of cloning inherently derivative?
I loved reading Mickey 7 and just adore the sequel Antimatter Blues. It does everything a proper sequel should; expands the world and goes in new intriguing directions with established characters. It’s literally the only book I’ve ever given 5 stars to on Goodreads.
Yeah, I mean movies like Moon and City of Lost Children played with similar ideas. But there’s not really a lot new conceptually in SF. But that’s always been the case and there’s always room for fresh take. This does look like fun and it’s a great cast.
I love Moon. It’s a great little flic.
@anon29537550 & @OWYAC: BBS is such a small world!
We will be going to see this in January, Kidd Jr. demands to see it in the theatre.
