Real shame to see him go, he took the show and made it his own, and turned in monologues and segments that were every bit as powerful as Stewart before him. I wasn’t sure what Stewart saw in him when he handed over the reigns to a relative unknown, but he picked well indeed.
Nooooo! He’s an awesome show host.
wow, such a shock, but i understand that he wants to stretch more, and in that case, more power to him.
I think it’s spelled apartheid.
He really gives comedians legs to do their own thing in segments, too. I don’t know if it’s actually changed or I’ve just noticed, but now he gives over a full third of his monologue to them and many seem to be relatively free form standup bits as opposed to more structured segments like interviews. Not all of them land for me, but Roy Wood Jr’s “traffic report” the other night killed me.
He probably figures now is as good a time as any to make a move–the show has a staff of writers and performers who are very comfortable in their parts and can carry a lot without him. It’s not going to fall apart when he leaves. Whoever takes over will want to make it their own the way he did and John Stewart did before him, but they won’t be starting over from scratch.
Bummer; I’ve really enjoyed TDS with him as the host.
I don’t suppose there’s any chance the Dems will run Stuart/Noah in '24?
I’m done with “celebrities” running for office. Done. Even ones that I like and agree with.
My emphasis.
Yep.
I’ve finally learned that “sharing my goals for the world” and “having skills useful in politics to achieve said goals” really are different things.
Besides what @anon61221983 said, the more obvious reason is that Trevor Noah cannot run for president or vice president of the United States.
… especially if they bring back Larry Wilmore
That’s the outcome I’m hoping for, though I won’t hold my breath.
Larry Wilmore would be frickin’ awesome!
That too, but honestly there isn’t any celebrity that needs to be running for office. If we haven’t learned our lesson yet, though, I doubt we’re gonna…
Now, The Daily Show finds itself in a familiar position as another incredibly popular host looks to vacate the captain’s seat.
I don’t know about incredibly popular, but certainly he has done a solid job. He tried to copy Jon initially and fell horribly flat. That’s when I stopped watching. Since then, I’d watch occasional bits on youtube and I saw they changed the set, he changed his approach and style, and made the show his instead of “sitting in Jon’s chair”. I also think he was pretty much the best at hosting without an audience, although I came to really enjoy Colbert’s wife offscreen laughing and jeering at him.
Well, Stuart at least has some experience with his 9/11 responder activism, but I am not sure he’d make a good president.
