Who asked for this?
and thus the fold wars began
Origami enthusiasts.
Of course, this is just the next step towards a fully foldable phone that can be balled up like a sheet of paper.
There’ll be little shops on every corner where people can have the wrinkles ironed out again for a small fee.
I still have my Rubik Magic puzzle. I really wish they would have kept making them, it was pretty sweet.
At some point all this folding seems to come with serious diminishing returns. You can’t exactly get rid of the mass of a larger screen by just folding it up. Would I like to have a 10" tablet screen fit in my pocket, sure. Do I want more than a pound of weight in my pocket, no.
Can’t wait for the Mad magazine app.
A literal airplane mode.
Phones with folding screens are the dumbest thing to hit smartphones since the notch, but this? This is pure idiocy. Why would I take a blissfully thin phone and fold it to something as thick as my old wallet? Ugh, I don’t get tech companies.
One of their prescient articles.
Blasphemy! everybody knows it was this one:
I’m still awaiting the return of the replaceable battery and card expandable storage.
Been wanting to upgrade my phone (6+ years old now) but not “downgrading” on the last point
Battery lasts about 5 hrs with moderate use now
We are each showing our ages, I suppose
That said, my Gigaset phone is huge and heavy. All that old school technology does affect miniaturisation
I don’t mind so much a thick phone - as a matter of fact the current ones feel too thin.
There may be case uses for a foldable phone, and even if this triple one seems exagerate there is an advantage over the double ones: when closed you get a fully usable normal phone with a full main screen on the front, instead of a tiny auxiliary screen for notifications only. You can use it normally when closed and open it to use it as a tablet.
What I would really like to know is if they managed to solve the problem of the fragility of the hinges and the screen degradation on them. That is what would make the difference between a premium (although niche) prototype product and another white elephant.
And if they manage to bring down the price while keeping said quality I suspect a lot of other manufacturers will feel that thewy have to follow.
Samsung SGH-427 roolz, doodz!
Last I checked Chinese manufacturers were still offering the card slot. Couple of years now. They had replaceable batteries later and I can imagine there being a market in Asia still.
