Trump administration bans diversity training for federal workers, calling it "Anti-American"

Ah, I missed the original, sorry.

Archie Bunker’s bigotry and racism harkens back to a time when race was used in a way we’d use “nationality.” The Russian “race,” the German “race,” etc etc.

Wouldn’t that make Fox the premiere crypto-evangelical propaganda bureau in the United States?

Before OAN, maybe. They lost the good graces of the Propagandist-in-Chief, God’s Annointed, He of the Holy Orange Countenance.

He spent days having everyone acknowledging that he hated the military, couldn’t understand why anyone would fuck with it, expressed contempt for soldiers who’d died in battle. He’s trying to re-appeal to his base – “See, guys, I hate black people, too! I’m still your guy!”

I expect he’ll forget all about this the next time Ivanka wears a low-cut top again…

Hi Milliefink, sorry I wasn’t clear, I actually agree that the deployment of a supposedly “color blind” hiring policy has had effects that sustain racial inequality, as would any sensible person. And that the solution is to re-examine what we mean by “best qualified” because there are insidious racial markers in the metrics used subconsciously by white hiring committees. Absolutely no argument from me on that.

And to aLynHall: yes I agree, and know about privilege and how I benefit from it as a white person.

My point was that Thom’s post seems to have misunderstood the criticism, as if the people criticizing the training seminars were questioning the fact that hiring practices have racist outcomes. I have no idea whether or not they also question this fact, but what I do know is that the stated objection was to the premise made in the trainings that “color-blind hiring is racist”.

just more shit we have to clean up later

And of course Archie Bunker was supposed to be a caricature of these people, not a role model.

There are so many Archie Bunker type people I have known that loved the show, and saw it completely backwards.

Maybe not for long. She seems to be making Pence mighty uncomfortable standing so close.

This has nothing to do with fixing a perceived problem or injustice. It’s all about the continued stoking of hatred and resentment.

…and I see from the “1619” post that the next stop is re-writing (re-re-writing?) the history books.

This weekend, I intended to try not to get upset by trumpisms.
Then the husband tells me about this Saturday morning, and I’ve been simmering over it since. Eventually, I’ll write a long screed about it, much like but different from Thom’s, but I’ve got to get off the Internet before I start screaming about racism, bigotry, and misogyny being promoted by a fascist administration.

It may have been tactical. Intelligent Design is creationism without God-- not because God is irrelevant to their worldview, but because their previous attempts at reintroducing theology into the curriculum had run afoul of liberal courts invoking the establishment clause.

The establishment clause isn’t as important now-- so they may be reverting to form.

So on this count BoingBoing is being disingenuous. If you look all the way at the bottom of the page you see that this is the signing for some other bill in 2017. Though it’s absolutely true that they have a problem and this image is fairly normal for this whitehouse where Trump surrounds himself almost exclusively with old white guys.

How is it disingenuous if it’s the truth that his administration isn’t very diverse? It’s the fucking truth. They are also regularly promoting white supremacist policies. That’s also the truth.

OT point of clarity, as far as I have been able to tell this was the opinion of NY Times critic Anthony Tommasini and hardly anyone else, much less entire organizations. His article was well criticized and I don’t expect the idea to gain much traction.
