Trump decides not to award G7 summit to own hotel after all

Isn’t that the basic plot of Snowpiercer?

This whole thing is amazing. It was a blatantly illegal plan, and a number of federal employees have gone to jail for less. It also directly contradicted his promise to not be involved in his businesses (although really, we all know he’s been secretly doing that all along). He suggested that by doing it at cost or even at a loss, that would make it acceptable. Except it’s off season (i.e. the resort is otherwise empty) at a resort best known for having bedbugs and shootings - even if he really did lose money, it would still be a big marketing coup. But he wasn’t going to lose money - even if he cost the US government nothing, the US government only pays for a fraction of the rooms used by each guest government. All those countries would have been paying Trump for rooms (and thus also violating the emoluments clause, yet again).

The supreme irony is that even if the Republicans had let him get away with this blatant corruption, many of the G7 countries couldn’t have legally sent anyone to attend - because it would have been a violation of their own anti-corruption laws.

A president publicly commits (another) impeachable offense while under impeachment investigation - and only backs off when even the Republicans said, “Whoa, crimes too far!” So now we know his limit.

Gold-plated nickel. It’s Trump, after all.

I think you’ve got that backwards.

No you didn’t. You never do. You say you do. But really, you never do.
