Yep.
I just hope that we manage to get everyone out. We still have fewer people than we did in 1939, and I don’t want to lose any more of us–even Trump’s Kapos.

There’s no way federal law can stand against the states when it comes to sanctuary cities. We might see CA and TX vs the government on this one.
Of course, if right-wing nationalist parties keep gaining power there the first thing that will go is open internal borders and free mobility of labour in Europe. Also, Poland is on Putin’s wish list. But this sort of thing is all about increasing the odds and buying time so it’s still a smart approach.
The postwar economic anomaly in the West has been grinding to a slow, shuddering stop since 2001, helped along by neoliberal policies. The return of right-wing populism and its nasty fellow-travellers is one of the consequences.
There’s always still Israel. It’s our refuge of last resort (like a lender of last resort, only for lives instead of economies)
Here, let me try rewording it again: Demeaning, insulting, belittling and ignoring people you need to win and giving them reasons to vote for the other guy or at least stay home is super counterproductive, and people shouldn’t do it.
And you chose to do so by demeaning, insulting, belittling and ignoring people who had a lot at stake in this election. I get you are very angry about people challenging your perceptions of yourself, but you’re basically one drop in a river of white people explaining that they know those white people voting Trump and that they are good people.
Like a Bible Thumping Dick Cheney. Only without the long time familiarity with the president. But as far as I can tell Trump barely acknowledged the existence of his VP, even at his victory speech. Who knows. Laziness makes an easy environment for evil scheming types like Pence.
It won’t be so bad.
Just avoid travelling in the USF (the United States of Fly-Over Land)
For all of Trump’s faults being lazy and pushing work on others are not among them. I don’t see this as anything less than an entire brood of new political blood, and I expect his extended family to start entering the political realm.
Are you kidding me? That is all the guy does. He puts his name on something, raises the money, then runs off once its made. There is nothing the guy has not found a knack for mismanaging or a responsibility he has not fled from.
I think you are confusing competence with work ethic.
In addition, totally ignoring the fact that the other CANDIDATE based his entire campaign (and life, let’s face it) on being demeaning, insulting, and belittling of a significant percentage of the population.
But when he does it it’s a win, apparently.
Samantha Bee’s post-election show from tonight is on-point, if anyone is in the mood to let humor dull the pain.
I think I’m done with satire and political comedy for a couple of years.
The failing of the Democratic party is not that it was willing to recognise the legitimacy of the grievances of historically oppressed communities.
The failing of the Democratic party is that it is a hopelessly corrupt plutocratic centre-right party masquerading as a left-wing party.
The solution is not economic leftism with added racism/misogyny/homophobia. The solution is an actual, honest social democratic party, organisationally and financially based on the membership of ordinary middle- and working-class people rather than corporate and plutocratic patrons. Bernie showed that this is possible.
The frequent assumption that tolerance of bigotry is required to attract working class votes is an insult to working class people everywhere.
I think I found my aphorism for 2017.
The Jamelle Bouie section of this (starts at 31:40) is worth a listen:
No, Bernie showed that after decades of socialism trying from the margins, it could make concrete inroads by becoming a movement within an established major party.
Inroads which were sabotaged by this same party. Having established major parties is a terrible idea from the start.
