But it does carry with it the need to infect a minimum of 60% of the population in order to achieve and it incurs a 1–1.5% fatality rate. It may be achieved incidentally, deliberate infection risks a health service under strain with 1 in every hundred nurses and doctors being lost too. While the concept is sound the practice and morality may turn out to leave a sour legacy.
You know we shouldn’t just write off this second chance the Pres is giving everyone to get out of their (cough, cough) caves and MAGA.
It is a strange world we’re living in.
From the NYT :
Against this backdrop, Mr. Trump’s push to ease restrictions so soon seemed out of touch with the scale of the crisis both in the country and around the world.
When asked how he came up with April 12 as a target date, Mr. Trump did not cite any scientific evidence.
“I just thought it was a beautiful time,” he said.
No.Words. As I am typing this, no sarcasm, no “dismayed” statement comes to my mind. Just speechless.
As someone else indicated above:
Jonestown.
I’ve trolled Breitbart many times, but this is the first time that they’ve removed a post. I don’t think it’s offensive, and it’s definitely not misinformation, so they’re enforcing an editorial policy on the comments. (I’m not going to waste the time triangulating their hot buttons.)
Perhaps the Mercer’s pet quack scientist thinks that a little plague is good for people?
I would love to open up on Donald Trump.
Er, I mean, I would love to see Donald Trump and his administration in a church on Easter Sunday.
Which vaccine do we use that kills at least 1%?
Billionaires contemplate having their net worth reduced by 90%, from $1 billion to $100 million, and can’t imagine that life would be worth living any more. Those who have other ways of measuring their own value may feel differently.
(FWIW, bankers didn’t really jump out of windows en masse in 1929.)
So after his evangelical base gets infected in a single day, will they still love him?
+1000 for Swear Trek
I feel like he’s leading us down the rabbit hole.
The numbers definitely back that up.

The mortality rate for those under 40 is 0.2%. I think it could work if everyone who is not in an at-risk category licked Tom Hanks and then immediately went into a two-week total isolation. They all get sick, but don’t spread it to any one else. Then at the end of two weeks, we have herd immunity enough to slow community spread.
No what you are left with is an at-increased-risk group who already have some infection, left with no support from anyone who is already in isolation. Plus 2,000 deaths per million of population in the under 40s.
If everyone in that “low risk” group got exposed at the same time a significant portion of them would get serious enough symptoms to require emergency medical care, further overwhelming a system that is woefully, tragically unequipped to handle the coming influx as it is.
Plus a pandemic isn’t a DMV line, you can’t just take a number.
Eastern Orthodox Easter is a week later this year. . . and that’s still too early for normalcy.
