This is what the core voting population of republicans wants to hear, and this is what they want to happen.

“Herd” isn’t a loose metaphor here. They believe they are culling those who do not contribute to the economy, the “eaters” or “feeders”. I had a delightful (gag) coworker, early-20’s, very republican, refer regularly to Covid-19 as “The Boomer Remover.”

So, this really isn’t an exercise in creating an immunity, it’s “culling the herd”, no camps or ovens necessary.

No lives matter.

The old “we must destroy the village to save it” strategy.

I don’t think it will be good for the Republicans if they “cull” the baby boomers.

The number of young people backing Trump is horrifying. We can’t let the stereotype of young=liberal blind us.

This is only vaguely more dystopian than all the other bullshit coming from the people in Trump’s orbit.

This sounds an awful lot like their economic strategy as well: “Let crippling poverty and trade wars decimate working people, while dumping farm subsidies and stock dividends on our supporters.”

According to Worldometer the US is currently seeing about 5% mortality. That would work out to about 11 million deaths using their numbers. But most would be older or have underlying conditions (like obesity, high blood pressure or asthma) and therefore don’t really count, since they are going to die anyway, right? These people have no souls.

Yes, as the Q woman that Trump re-tweeted:

I think the procedure now is if you are old and get covid, you died of “old”. If you have diabetes and have covid, you died of diabetes, etc., etc., ad naseam.

It’s a crime against humanity.
With 2 million+ possible deaths, compared to other genocidal actions, that decision may kill more people than Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge did, and is the same order of magnitude as Holocaust.

Just remind them they are suggesting following the strategy used in a socialist country.

Herd Immunity is Socialist!!!

Well, as someone who is overweight, hypertensive, prediabetic and “older,” i maintain that I should still count as a life. Maybe I am wrong, but that is my position. Convince me I am wrong. (Not you, you understand.)

And interesting, considering Trump has been bragging for months about how his response reduced deaths from a couple million to a couple hundred thousand. Now we are back to the two million.

Maybe this is somehow connected to upcoming election?

The attitude is really outside a normal person’s ability to understand.

If you asked a Nazi what the world they were making would look like, he’d have said a world with no armies, no wars, no hunger, no disease, all the resources of mankind going toward progress and scientific achievement. He’d probably have said it with starry eyes and a big smile.

These people think the same way. You have strife between races? Well, obviously, they’d say the best plan is to only have one race. You have people apt to get sick, weighing down society? They’d think it best to not have people who are apt to get sick. And on and on for every societal problem.

It isn’t hyperbole. This is how these people think. This is how Scott Atlas is thinking. Millions of Americans are poised to vote for these people.

And as I posted elsewhere, most Americans have underlying conditions. We are, as a country, overweight, diabetic, hypertensive, etc. I’m very “healthy” (appearing, at least) and have at least one underlying condition. Same with most of the people I know.

Well, not once they are out of the womb anyway.

And even that is a “Do as I say, not what I suggest to my secretary/intern/pageant contestant to do…” kinda deal.
