Trump is apparently still terrified about financial conflicts so now he's tweeting about flag-burning and CNN

I’m pretty sure the 2011 tweet’s a fake. It’s not on his timeline, not referenced anywhere, and highly out of character given that he was both running in a GOP primary that year and has flipped out over flag burning a number of times.

Part of me really does hope flag burning becomes a thing if only for the fact that it might drive Trump to excessive madness. If a few thousand people with lighters and cheap Chinese-made US flags can make him lose his shit, maybe all the mugwumps out there will take a step back from Trump…

Being President does not make one presidential.

Agreed – it doesn’t exist now, and a search for his tweets around that date shows Like and Retweet numbers orders of magnitude smaller than in that screenshot.

There are better ways to drive him mad that won’t embolden his trash demographic.

I apologize for being duped. I guess everyone likes to make up fake news these days.

We could burn confederate flags?

It’s quite telling that it seems entirely plausible, though.

It’s never too early to get a head-start on 2018 and 2020 voter suppression efforts. /s

No biggie. It happens to all of us sometimes.

The person posting it was looking for attention and they got it.

The South and burning? Too soon.

It’s perfectly clear that Trump WANTS people to burn flags. So that he can import new ones from China and make a profit selling only the best flags to burn.

Trump makes the best Chinese flags. They come from Ethiopia. Yuge!

I’m sure nothing would make him happier than to incite a record number of liberals to burn flags during his inauguration just so he can rally his base and claim he was right all along. (I mean, he’ll claim he was right all along no matter what but if all the news networks broadcast flag-burners then he’ll have some nice optics to go along with the claim.)

The one thing that makes be happy about the inauguration is knowing that restaurant and hotel workers are going to be spitting in food and drink that weekend. Trumpers are not welcome in DC.

Yup, because 2+2=38 and 2+2=4 means the “truth” is that 2+2=17 …

The false balance of the “The truth is always in the middle” is part of how we got Trump and other conservative nonsense. The false balance is used on tv “news” programs when they bring on the Trump crank parade vs. reality based people. Global climate, for example, is changing. The truth isn’t halfway between.

If history is any indication those aren’t the only service providers who will have their hands full that weekend.

Hey, at least 17 is a bit closer to 4 than to 38.

Mass media propping up binary choices on every single issue couldn’t be further from what I said even if what I said wasn’t a joke about reality TV. I mean, you even called the balance false which is directly contrary to the concept of a middle ground.

Yeah, Climate Change is 100% happening without any rational deniability. I also first heard about global warming in children’s scientific magazines in the late eighties that was almost entirely bullshit but literally made me sick with how scared I was reading it. Shock of all shocks, the nationally funded efforts by corporations to counter global warming resulted in a severely delayed reaction of scientific news making it through the media and what did was typically sensationalized. The same effort over the past 20 years was about flipping the course to over sensationalize the opposite “truth” which made the earlier media coverage appear like complete bullshit even if it was much closer than the truth.

So yes, the truth is next to always in the middle between two extremes. It’s in the extremely boring and difficult to digest, which for some strange reason never shows up on media with privatized funding.

In my view, given its history and the history of its predecessors (yes, there has been more than one version of the Stars and Stripes, 39 in all), Old Glory is a symbol of the country, not the government save insofar as it serves us, the Republic, so in that sense I agree with you. I think burning the flag is ignorant and vile. However, the purpose of the Constitution and specifically the Bill of Rights was and is to found a nation constituted on ideas, not symbols. Symbols of the United States obtain any value and meaning from those ideas. To trample upon those ideas in service to their symbol by punishing those who, in the exercise, however ignorant, of their American freedoms, desecrate the symbol, is a perversion of all the American Flag stands for, and a betrayal of the principles on which the Republic was founded.

Speaking of ignorance, I seriously doubt Trump is even remotely aware of the remarkable true history of the symbol he so hollowly claims to defend.

I’m going to pay closer attention to what they torch at Black Rock City next year.

“Why are they not shutting him down”

My guess is they let him do it to get him out of their way. His family, Kelly what’s her face and Bannon are really in charge.

Twitter is his binkie.

I think they may also funnel bits of news so he can off to distract people. Like the flag storm but nothing about the Somali stabbing event? He should be bragging about how he warned us about “those people”.

GOP prob loves it cause to some extent they have free reign.
