Trump offered Assange pardon in exchange for covering up Russian DNC hack, says lawyer

Unless of course they claim to be an unbiased journalism organization that holds the powerful accountable. In which case going to bat for Trump and Putin would make them a bunch of human shitstains who ALSO happened to be filthy liars.

Make that “a bunch of human shitstains who ALSO happened to be filthy liars that ALSO happened to have helped uncover a shit ton of warcrimes and are still persecuted for that” and I may agree with you

To measure something against a standard, you first have to define a standard.

Funny how they haven’t found any war crimes to expose under Putin or Trump’s watches. I guess it’s just because Putin and Trump have such legendary restraint and a respect for human rights that is beyond reproach.

Unbiased is exactly what Wikileaks claims to be. So, No.

Roger Stone was convicted of lying about claiming to have just one connection to Wikileaks when in fact he had two, Randy Credico and Jerome Corsi. He was also convicted of witness tampering when he tried to get Corsi to claim to be his sole connection to Wikileaks, and for obstruction for denying he had any documents relating to contacting Wikileaks when he did in fact have such documents.

It’s also what FOX, CNN, and MANBC claim to be, but I don’t see any of their reporters being hounded by the government and threatened with prison over the fact that it isn’t true, so whether it’s true or not, and whether it’s honest or not, are entirely irrelevant to a discussion of the extradition process.

No media outlet is a perfect beacon of objectivity, but I could point out dozens of examples of CNN and MSNBC reporting news that was harmful to Democrats. Nor did either of those organizations work with hostile foreign governments to change the outcome of an American election. False equivalency is false.

They’ve all spouted out propaganda to change the outcome of US elections. I’m not sure how doing it for Oligarchs is better than doing it for anyone else, and the others have a much worse record than WikiLeaks for the factual correctness of their propaganda.

Are you a fan of the GOP? It seems like you want to use them as the standard to measure the DNC against. I hold the democrats to a higher standard then the GOP. :man_shrugging:

Funny how more then 8 years of non-stop smear campaigns have made them a less credible and attractive source for use as a leaking platform.

The trouble is, corruption can be defined broadly–“non pure of heart”, or it can be defined exceedingly precisely, so as to exclude almost anything, or it can defined starting from broad, but nevertheless non-allencompassing precepts, such as “use of public authority for private gain”.

I’ve never been quite clear as to what Assange means by corruption, and his early writings (dating from before wikileaks) strike me as bizarre.

If you’re going to take the position “it’s not a smear campaign if it’s factually true” then it’s not a smear campaign to point out that Assange has used his platform to help Trump and Putin’s causes by hurting Democrats, then lied about doing so (for example, by publicly denying getting DNC dirt from Russian hackers).

If Wikileaks doesn’t seem like as credible and attractive a platform for would-be leakers as other legitimate media outlets then that’s because Wikileaks hasn’t been demonstrating the level of responsibility that people have a right to expect from legitimate media outlets.

Yeah, I’m obviously talking about the early work Wikileaks did. It may seem like 8 years of Tump have passed already but I was referring to Obama’s 8 years in office.

Also the “it’s not a smear campaign if it’s factually true” position is not mine. If you are referring to the email leaks, I think it’s both. It’s factually true and important and also overinflated and specifically timed for maximum damage.

And most everyone else is talking about how quickly whatever respect they had for Wikileaks went down the toilet as soon as it became apparent that Wikileaks in general and Assange in particular was working to help Trump/Putin destroy the country just to get some payback against Hillary and the Democrats.
