Trump plans to deploy military on Inauguration Day, seize government agencies, and purge critics

The elite national media absolutely wants fascism. The NYTimes has been cheering for it since the '30s. The Liberal Media promoted the Dapper Nazis as hard as they could and have been accepting right-wing spin for decades.

Yes, Trump is going to have Maggie Haberman killed, but she thinks she’s in the inner circle. Doesn’t change the fact that she and her coworkers are going to cheer when hippies and Jewish people and Black people and Hispanics and trans people and anyone who doesn’t worship Trump gets executed.

“… my candidate would win if only voters were not childish and stupid” is a great campaign strategy

“The elite national media wants the fascists to win” is a pretty broad generalization, especially given that the Washington Post is the organization that broke this story in the first place.

And the MAGAt wing is currently trying to deport all the Palestinians who arrived here since (?)2020, IIRC. It does seem a bit irrational to support the party that literally wants you dead over one that doesn’t meet your level of intensity. Biden was always going to be a corporate dem, but he has been far more progressive than I expected his administration to be. Trading that for a full-on fascist dictatorship seems unwise in the extreme.

It’s as strange as Black people who support him. But every election has its contingent of “Chickens for Col. Sanders” voters.

Over here we say turkeys voting for Christmas, because that’s what is on the dinner table on Christmas Day.

Yeah, I have a very hard time feeling enthusiastic about most any politician, especially if they’ve, say, voted to authorize an illegal war in Iraq. However, when someone tells me they simply didn’t vote because reasons, I just lose all respect for them.

Hear, hear!

Needs to be repeated.

Meanwhile, millions of voters are folding their arms like shirty children and threatening to sit out the election because they don’t like their choices.

Look, what the fuck do you want people to say when they are pissed off at Biden. Of COURSE they are going to say such things.

Will they actually DO such things next year? I dunno, man. I think the closer we get to the election, the tighter the various court cases ensnare Trump, the more unhinged he will be and the more mask off he will become.

People who voted against him in in 2020 will do it again in 2024 because no matter how mixed your feelings are for Biden, Trump will be an absolute shit show/nightmare.

I don’t think I buy that, outside a few people on the obvious right (and propaganda outlets like Fox, etc.). Instead, I think the problem is that they’re invested in “journalistic impartiality” and “balanced coverage of both sides” (which get enacted in really broken ways), plus the spectacle of the political conflict - i.e. the run-up to fascism - sells newspapers. They’re also really invested in looking neutral (to maintain their audience, to maintain their credibility among those who don’t see them as credible anyways). It’s been pointed out that if the media simply talked about what’s going on, actually talked about all the dangerous things Trump is doing with the appropriate level of concern, they’d come across as deranged anti-Trump partisans. They don’t want to do that, so they underplay it, consistently (and add false balance by making equivalencies where they don’t exist with anti-Trump forces). They’re paving their way to their own destruction, but they think they’re taking the journalistic high-road, even when it’s painful.

You’re not wrong. BUT…

The fact is that whether we like it or not, the election will be between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

One of those two will be the next president, unless one of them dies before the election.

No amount of third-party what-aboutism will change this. It’s either Biden or Trump.

If you don’t want Trump to be president, vote for Biden. A protest vote for a third-party candidate, or not voting at all, is effectively a vote for Trump.

actually, we really don’t know that. It’s certainly the most likely possibility and thus we should pay that mind and act accordingly, but we don’t know what will happen in the next year. Trump might get taken off the ballot in some states or could be in jail or waiting to be sentenced. President Biden is 80 (although, he’s a good health, it seems) and it could be president Harris instead. The GOP could split and have a moderate GOP and a MAGA GOP. There are plenty of possibilities in these times that are not just Trump and Biden, even if that is the most likely outcome.

I really don’t think @chenille is engaging in that, but pointing out that people who have family who are being indiscriminately slaughtered are part of Biden’s constituency. The Arab-American vote went to Biden in Michigan, and he should pay attention to that, given that MI is one of the major swing states at play.

Which @chenille said nothing about. Supporting a particular candidate does not mean blinding pledging alligence and never being critical of them.

Yeah, as per Mindy, I am not saying the author is wrong that people need to vote to keep Trump out of office. I am saying that sneering at people for caring more about ongoing genocide and destruction of the earth than how the economy is doing this quarter makes him a sickening ghoul.

I parsed through a lot of this not too long ago. Frightening is not an understatement AT ALL.

The coup didn’t start on Jan 6, 2020. He made his intentions known whlen he said that the only way he could lose the 2016 election was if it was rigged against him.
There is no shortage of cultists, grifters, and power-hungry jackasses that lust for him to be back in power.

This time, his co-conspirators are making sure there is no ‘if’.
By any means necessary.
We have a long year ahead of us.

I wonder how well that’s gonna work, given Lord Dampnut’s animosity towards those entities. The phrase “Fragging the Ell Tee” comes to mind, for some reason…

I don’t see his statements as anything other than a Declaration of War against the Most Of Us. I see no reason not to prepare accordingly, if/when the election goes sideways.
Just remember they will stop at nothing to obtain and keep the power that Almighty God has bestowed upon them. Lord Dampnut is their saviour, appointed by Almighty God.
Such is the mind of the MAGAt, & it is a waste of time trying to engage them.

It is a better use of the limited time remaining to educate & inform those who can make a real difference… those disaffected by politics in general, and have removed themselves from the process.
Explain that, if Lord Dampnut wins, their apathy will be seen as insufficient adoration of Lord Dampnut, so off to the Gulags…
And if they are somehow ‘different’, well, that’s a big No No, as well.
Off to the Gulags…

Time to Fear Monger.
This time it is justified.

And it shoul be self-evident that Fear Mongering works, however distasteful it is.

The best option to my mind is that Trump is successfully stopped from standing (court case, health, whatever) and Biden takes the opportunity to withdraw from the contest as he no longer needs to beat Trump.

The military was constantly telling Trump to go fuck himself.

His first Sec of Defense disobeyed directives to ignore strategic effects of climate change.
They openly protested his trans ban.
They refused to hold a Soviet style parade in DC.
They refused to be guards for his immigrant child concentration camps
I also got the impression they politely refused his efforts to spark off wars with Iran and North Korea.

Are people really that worried about what “woke-ism” will do to this country that they’d abandon democracy to save themselves? Do they not see what choices are on offer here? It won’t stop with bullying trans people if Trump takes office.

You can’t abandon democracy if you never supported it in the first place. The anti woke crowd has always been against concepts like rule of law and civil liberties. They have been the ones who support disenfranchisement, discrimination and rampant corruption. They see a loss of privileges and will burn the country down to regain them.
