well, that’s what they’re saying certainly. personally, i’d like receipts - especially ones that show they aren’t loans from the ■■■■■ organization to the ■■■■■ campaign - before believing any of it

So the article I just read said December 4th for the next court date. At that rate things might get resolved around November 2024….

“ The judge set the next court hearing for Dec. 4 and did not issue a gag order on any of the parties”

I keep reading that each of the counts could result in 4 years in prison - but because he “doesn’t have a record” (i.e. has avoided consequences for his crimes all his life), he’s unlikely to get any prison time at all. Which makes me wonder - what’s the point? What’s the actual consequence for him? He’ll be, what, on probation? For how long? Will it stop him from committing other crimes? (I don’t think he’ll bother to pay anyone hush money at this point, so he’s not likely to commit that particular crime again, though he’ll continue having dodgy business dealings.) Will it impact other prosecutions? Will there even be other prosecutions (while he’s on probation)?

People are saying, “Well, they got Al Capone on tax evasion” but he actually went to jail. It seems likely that the result of this will be, “Okay Mr. Trump, don’t do it again. And if you do do it again, there also won’t be any real consequences that time, either.”

Look at it this way, if he just gets probation for this one next time he’ll have a record

That applies to stuff that’s currently under investigation too!

Omg, his speech is off the rails.

Take a drink, he just mentioned Hilary’s emails.

Fox is upset that MSNBC isn’t covering it live.

If he takes a document it’s automatically declassified, it’s the law.

Racist in reverse?

And on and on and on…

Not too long ago, people were saying he’d never be indicted for anything and here we are… :woman_shrugging: Something is impossible until it isn’t…

[ETA] Here is what Beau has to say about it, FWIW…

I’m surprised they didn’t have tax evasion in the charges. He clearly received several hundred thousand dollars in benefits from the T**** Org that (I would assume) were not stated as income. An officer of a company can’t just use the corporate bank account as their own, and if they do receive such a benefit, they have to declare it as income. No way T**** declared that $420k, $150k and $30k as income.

Isn’t NY State working on that issue?

I had not heard of that investigation. It would be federal, too.

Couldn’t it be both? NYS has taxes too.

Looks like it’s not necessarily taxes, but other kinds of business fraud? But it’s civil with referring it to the Feds…

I have not read the indictment from today, but I don’t think taxes play a role in that…

Today, no. Future hopefully.
