Trump repeatedly (8 times) urged Ukraine president to investigate Biden’s son

A perspective I have heard from Republicans is that we have too many laws and regulations already, and so they prefer the deadlock of congress.

It is a thread that surfaces in other ways too, talking about repealing 2 old laws for every one new one. Etc.

There is a legitimate discussion to be had about deprecating useless legislation. Lots of local statues at least just stop getting enforced at some point and then people forget they exist until either a journalist puts together a “weird laws” article or some lawyer brings up an ancient law in court for some novel defense/offense.

That’s like Churchill’s adage that “jaw-jaw is better than war-war”, except with functioning government instead of war…

If it were pure deadlock and nothing was happening at all it wouldn’t be SO bad. But the problem is trump doing all this stuff through executive order or whatever, bypassing congress and the deadlock just means a failure to stop this slow motion train wreck.

I’ve been trying to understand the Hunter Biden thing. Guardian seems to have summarized it pretty simply:

“ The firing of Viktor Shokin was in fact an aim of the US, its allies, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, regarding his failure to combat corruption.

An investigation into the company for which Hunter Biden worked was dormant at the time of the vice-president’s visit. In May 2019, the Ukraine prosecutor general told Bloomberg, “We do not see any wrongdoing” by the Bidens.”

So like Hunter benefitted probably, but that wasn’t what it was about… correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t wanna fuel right wing talking points but I think we do a disservice to ignore them completely without explaining the reality.

Good point. The U.S. is toast. Time to escape, if you can.

What if Traitor Trump decided one day that his “Wall” was intended to keep U.S. citizens inside as much as to keep foreigners outside? Remember that as the Nazis tightened their control on Germany, there was quite a while when Jews were allowed – even encouraged – to leave. And then suddenly, they couldn’t, and the horrors of the Holocaust were upon them.

If you don’t think it could happen to you because you’re Protestant, white, male, or whatever… go ahead and wait. Fascism occurs because the wealthy need a desperate means to shore up an abject failure of capitalism. The only people who benefit – and who subsequently escape the consequences – are those same wealthy fascists.
