On some level, Trump is playing a whole different game than the rest of the GOP when it comes to making up his own “facts.”
Well, he’s partially adopted a strategy of acknowledging the reality of statistics he scoffed at before he was elected. So all he has to do is point to the fact that illegal immigration is net zero, crime is down, that there already is a wall for (part of) the Mexican border, etc. and he wins! * Sessions reading the crime trends graph upside down and claiming that New York is suffering a crime wave doesn’t really help that narrative, but he’s got his own agenda…
- I call it the “thanks Trump!” phenomenon - taking credit only for accomplishments he had nothing to do with (because his own actions only have negative consequences, if any).
