The resignations come as the new Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, has “indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against” former President Donald Trump, the Times said, citing conversations with people with knowledge of the matter.
Bragg’s concerns ultimately led to a pause in the probe’s use of a state grand jury, according to the Times, which said Dunne and Pomerantz “have not questioned any witnesses in front of the grand jury for more than a month.” The newspaper said that the investigators “late last month postponed a plan to question at least one witness before the grand jury.”

do keep in mind that the manhattan d.a.'s case is separate from the new york attorney general’s case. despite the fact that i still doubt trump will ever see a courtroom over anything he’s done, there is still an active and viable investigation proceeding in new york.

True, but what concerns me is stuff like this:
The investigation they led will continue, but their reported reasons for leaving are eye-raising: their boss, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is allegedly openly doubtful about the case, a development that disrupted their momentum.
And then…
But James’ investigation is civil, meaning she could sue Trump or his company for wrongdoing, but would have to refer any criminal charges to the Manhattan district attorney.
So if the Manhattan DA decides not to press criminal charges, than Trump gets away with his crimes yet again.
