Trump the Chump (Part 1)

The most infamous time Trump used the “both sides” line it was clear one side was Nazis and the other side was people who don’t like Nazis. This time, it’s… uh… God, what are the sides here? I mean, most of us are on the side of “People who have been exonerated by DNA evidence shouldn’t be executed.”

It seems to boil down simply to “I won’t admit to ever being wrong”.

I mean he refers to the prosecutor’s piece and as far as I can tell in that, the best she can come up with is that the people exonerated might have been guilty of some of the other crimes they were convicted for unrelated to the rape. Even she accepts that the rape convictions couldn’t stand.

Trump’s “side” of this – which is basically the same argument he used when calling for their deaths – is that he doesn’t trust DNA evidence and that the Central Park 5 ‘confessed’ (i.e., were forced to confess after hours of interrogation, and then withdrew their confessions).

At what point does this become really actually frightening? Should he lose (please God, let it be!) what options does he actually have? Or should I just not ask, cause I’m not sure I want to know.

Whoever the Electoral College votes for in December 2020 is the President in January 2021.

The old President doesn’t have a role in the process. There’s nothing for him to sign or agree to.

If he’s not out by sunset on the 20th I imagine the Secret Service will put his belongings in the street.

I love how this title was cut off in my browser. Not sure if everyone else sees the same thing but the “BORING!” seems to interrupt the headline, like Trump can’t even get through that.

One would hope. Democracies don’t die when everyone follows the rules of the democracy.

I mean, fair enough. A democracy that has in it’s constitution the rules for installing a dictator who is then legally allowed to arrest and seize the assets of their political opposition (this part seemed pretty sketchy, to be honest) certainly may die by following those rules.

What I really mean is that you can’t count on laws to protect you from dictators. If someone is worried about something like a president staying in office after losing the election, the answer, “Well, that’s not what the law says” is not going to do much to comfort them.
