And I thought Sedition and Treason were punishable by hanging, but alas it’s only a fine of $10K, 5 years in prison, and banned from public office.

Plus, there’s no maximum prison term.
The 10K fine suggests that it wasn’t updated; several years back, a sizable number of statutory fines were raised to 100,000 from 10K.
However, treason is difficult to prove, and for good reason, so other crimes would be trumped up.
