Interesting view. Even Nixon seemed uncomfortable with that role, which is saying something. JFK sort of had it foisted upon him, but he was a natural celebrity who found some degree of balance with the “old republic thinking.” Only the Boomers (and one Greatest Generation movie star) lost themselves in it.
