Trump's "dwindling chances" of winning election highlight scope for keeping power by other means

that statement as written is somewhat deceptive. only if you restrict the recount to votes in the four disputed counties gore originally asked for do you get bush winning. in examining the votes in the entire state a bush victory becomes problematic and possibly impossible.

This. The common belief system I see as a thread in my circles which includes Christians, Evangelicals, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Wiccan, Pagan, Buddhist and Agnostic and Athiest folks, business people, athletes, qanon, post New Agers, progressive political activists, and folk beliefs among my family and neighbors, is this belief in “Manifesting” good things and bad things through visualization. It’s reinforced daily and unquestioned. I was raised with it without realizing it and still fight the reflex.

Reality is whatever you believe strongly enough.

Truth is whatever one can believe strongly enough and, bonus, tie to scripture or wise sayings.

How you can even imagine such a scheme is enough to move the needle when sorting by hand is fairly incredible. You know what they would need to do so effectively? Sorting machines.
For the most part, the other side is just as charmingly incompetent as we are.

Among statisticians and people who borrow their tools, a “structural change” is a break in the data where past results’ ability to forecast events reduces significantly. That’s one bit of jargon to look for on Silver’s site.

From the outside… The fact that he got in was one thing. The fact that he remained in shows a systemically corrupt system. The fact that this could even possibly be a close vote is damning on the US as a nation.

You must pry this scepter from my cold, dead hands.

Tell that to the man who is on fire: “All you have to do is believe that you are not on fire, and you wont burn!”

Exactly. It’s ridiculous, but it’s apparently the most commonly accepted credo, at least in my part of the country.

I’ve just now, arbitrarily decided to call this Carlsonism:

“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
