The beneficiaries of this corruption insisted to Propublica that they weren’t seeking tax breaks for themselves, but rather, they were motivated by concern for small-time investors who might build on adjacent lands.
Won’t someone think of the poor super yacht owners oppressed by the mega yacht owners?
So then it’is working as intended?
Everyday I wonder what will be the last straw? What will push the shat-upon people to revolt? Will it be this? Probably not. It’s Florida.
because a rising tide lifts all boats…
looks around
(except those scuttled by revolutionary saboteurs)
But, corruption is worse in Russia … isn’t it?
Guys, you do realize that the very largest yacht you placed the revolutionary guillotine upon is Les Wexner’s MV Limitless. That Wexnar, the one of the Limited and Victorias Secret. And that yacht’s build expenses and the owner’s design input was managed by none other than, yes you got it, Jeffrey Epstein. There is even a exercise room perfect for massage on the upper aft deck of course.
You planned that guillotines placement didn’t you? You cheeky devils. I always have so much respect for the creativity of photo editors.
Ha! They’d probably bitch that those small time neighboring developments would hurt their property values.
eta: And the sssservants’ quarters should be tastefully out of sight.
I thought it was just logically placed at the end of the line that would be formed along the dock.
Thanks for the added context, and welcome to BoingBoing.
Precisely.
The only “political borders” that corruption knows of are the fence lines that surround mega mansions. Doesn’t matter what continent they’re on.
And I could be wrong but the boat with the helipad looks like a shadow vessel, which is a second boat (and sometimes there are more than one) that owners keep to hold all the toys and crew they want to keep from cluttering up their mega yacht.
The program was always meant to be a scam. It has all of the developer incentives that make things like LIHTC popular, but without even the oversight that makes it a somewhat effective program. Then they left final selection up to politicians rather than a clear formula, so you end up with stuff like this and the hot gentrifying areas of a lot of cities getting funding, but not historically distressed communities like East Cleveland.
It is.
Not that it makes the American corruption any more acceptable, or less bad.
You throw a stone in the woods and you are bound to hit a few trees.
Didn’t it create a couple of menial, insecure, shit paying jobs?
Besides, the primary role of the state under corporatism is further enrichment who don’t need (or deserve) it at the expense of the nation. Given that role of the state, the outcome here is practically socialism. (Actually, all sarcasm aside, the standard response to claims that everything that benefits the masses — like ending Pentagon waste, affordable healthcare and living wages — is to say we have socialism already, but it’s misdirected.)
