Uh-oh. Huge sinkhole swallows up Illinois soccer field — which was built over a working mine (video)
Yikes! That is some terrifying footage. The aftermath didn’t look that bad but seeing it go was something. It even scared my dog.
If one should prefer to be non-Xwitter …
(search youtube for “sinkhole alton” for lots of additional drone shots)
Well, ain’t that a pitch.
Jeeze, that’s a big one! Glad it wasn’t in use at the time.
Well - isn’t this a coincidence, we got a potential problem of stuff build on mines as well.
I am guessing it is north of I-70, as I know there are several former mines used for storage (and paintball!) in that area.
What, close the field? This just opens up the possibilities for some exciting new sports games!
inaccuweather? The same feeble-ass inaccuweather which shrub, jr wanted to replace NOAA with?
It is a hole new game!
Mine says, “MINE!!”
That’s where they went wrong. You want coal mines for good football.
The golf course in my home town (Washington, PA) was built over a disused coal mine. Over one winter a significant fraction of the mine collapsed, completely rewriting the overlying topography. The course had to quickly rearrange and realign some of the holes to compensate for the changed in terrain.
