when the mum lived up there in “sinkhole central”, she was terrified of sinkhole disasters.
her land abutted a limestone mining operation at one corner of the 9 acres. the mine blasted regularly, causing significant damage to the well, septic system and foundation of the house. enough shallow seismic activity to shift the sandy land and possibly open a hole and swallow up parts of the house and surroundings.
terrified.
there were many, ugly, protracted legal battles with the mining company that sucked up a lot of money from the home owners’ coalition formed to fight them that ultimately went nowhere.
