Hunt and Sunak have survived.
When I found out Nadine Dorries was going to be on Channel 4, I decided not to watch their show. I’d already decided not to watch the BBC because Kuenssberg is one of the presenters. In the end I went to bed early.
I knew I was going to have insomnia from the stress, so I kept watching.
Labour gain Edinburgh South West. Joanna Cherry has lost. One more TER is out of parliament.
Well, they’re officially over the top now. Labour have their majority with 186 seats still to declare.
And it looks like East Somerset and Hanham was the seat that put them over the line.
Jacob Rees-Mogg can go back home to the 1820s.
Yes! Get Tae fuck you pseudo-aristocratic streak of piss in morning dress
Reading some of the emerging punditry in the Guardian, you’d think this has been a massive triumph for Labour.
But when you look at the figures, there are plenty of constituencies where Labour won because the Tory vote decline was matched by a Reform vote leap. Those Reform voters only opposed the Tories because they didn’t think they were fascist enough. It has not convinced me that there has been a sea-change in the mood of the country as a whole.
The Tories have been wiped out in Wales.
ETA:
The Green Party have gained Waveney Valley and North Herefordshire. If they hold Brighton Pavilion they will have as many seats as Reform.
Jeremy Hunt has narrowly held his seat.
Jess Phillips holds Birmingham Yardley by 693 votes. Considering the alternative was the Workers Party she was probably the least worst option.
I’m loving your play-by-play. Forgive me, but I’m reading it in my mind in a sort of Monty Python-esque dramatic voice.
Liam Fox has lost North Somerset to Labour.
I just got the news that my own constituency of Witney has gone Lib-Dem – Hurrah! – And with that, I’m back off to bed.
… Enoch Powell has won Clacton. That’s not a result, it’s just a bit of gossip.
i’m super curious now if the uk has more representatives per capita than the us does. ( i tried to do some searches and failed. surely some counties must have a lot of representatives, and others less? hmmm )
UK 650
US 435 + 100 in Senate
Green Party hold Brighton Pavilion for a total of 4 seats. Will they get the same coverage as Reform, or maybe more because they exceeded expectations?
ETA:
There are more left wing independents than Reform MPs too.
Liz Truss has lost to Labour
That’s four of the five Tory PM seats lost tonight. Witney (David Cameron), Maidenhead (Theresa May), Henley (Boris Johnson) and South West Norfolk (Liz Truss)
I’m going to bed now, It’s mostly over now and I have no desire to see Starmer’s victory speech at Downing Street.
ETA: I forgot de Pfeffel was MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip when he was PM, but the Tories lost that too.
