Can we hurry up and abolish Britain and it’s FPTP parliament?

Sadly, this is just the end result of New Labour policy, as enthusiastically embraced by the Tories. Academization of schools always opened up the possibility of this happening, with the attendant closure / sell off of former public property being the end-game for many academy chains.
Also, this is another chapter in the old story of “The Guardian doesn’t understand / care about devolution” Fortunately, Wales, Scotland and the north of Ireland didn’t go down this route, and their local schools are all local authority run, which prevents this particular disaster.
Well there’s a thing.
What’s the catch, Boris?
Boris, undefeated and in command of 100+ totally real supporters in the Commons, will swoop in just in time for the next gereral election.
Please be true.
Please don’t be true.
That’s all. Thank you, Santa.
While it seems likely they were over egging their support I think they might well have got wind of what the investigation has in store and so decided to wait for the election for rehabilitation. I guess any punishment / approbation would have expired by then.
His return would be a lose/lose for not just the public, but the party.
That’s the gist, isn’t it?
I expect that his team have sounded out the numbers and he really doesn’t have 100 MPs who are willing to back him at this point.
I wouldn’t be surprised… it’s strategic, not an admission on his part that he sucked as PM…
Concur. Definitely strategic. He is what I like to call a stupid asshole, but cunning. Also, advisors. And, shall we say, interested parties he is inclined to listen to.
The next 26 months will be an unprecedented shitshow. The Tories will wear out at least another two to three PMs while trying to cling to power. Whoever that will turn out to be, they will be burned well and proper for the foreseeable future. The weirdo with the hairdo (WWTH) will do his level best to assure this.
Then, when the next general election is called, WWTH will make it known that he could be asked to be the saviour of Britain. By then his tenure as PM will look like the good old times in retrospect; at least for the Tories. Also, by then his partygate and whatnot shenanigans will have resulted in a gentle slap on the wrist that is long forgotten.
All WWTH has to do until then is to lie relatively low and avoid any flamingo-ups - granted, this will be a challenge for him, so there still is a teensy-weensy ray of hope.
I am not looking forward to all of this.
Rishi Sunak is set to become the UK’s next prime minister after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the Tory leadership race.
“The multi-millionaire former hedge fund boss would be expected to launch deep spending cuts to try to rebuild Britain’s fiscal reputation, just as the country slides into a recession, dragged down by the surging cost of energy and food.“
I think I’ve seen this episode already.
Exactly what I thought; no runoff = no party members vote. They’re never going to give them the chance to do that again, after Mouldy Jam & Mouldy Lettuce.
If they ever get the chance to pick a ‘leader’ after they run out the clock on this shitshow that is.
Suella Braverman was also reappointed Home Secretary by Mr Sunak just days after she was sacked from the post by Liz Truss for breaching the ministerial code.
Gods damn it.
