Me, I thought it could just be a reproduction of the sort of sound you get from whistling fireworks.
So doves sound like a Yamaha DX7 playing syncopated triads over a pentatonic riff?

But seriously folk the 20th century French composer Olivier Messiaen would transcribe bird song and work these into a composition. There is no evidence that he would poke doves with sticks to hear how doves cried though!
