WOW! how the hell did they manage to do that?

Mythbusters did it. IIRC, they heated up the air in the unsealed tank then started running a vacuum pump after sealing in the hot air, then kept the pump running while the air cooled off. Something like that.

In anycase it’s the weight of the whole atmosphere that crushes the tank. Not the vacuum pressure.

They had to “cheat” by damaging the tank to get it to actually collapse:

You can replicate this at a smaller scale on a hot day with a jerrycan full of petrol fumes (but otherwise empty) and a big bucket of really cold water.
