My problem with pacific rim “was we need two people because they mentally control the mech”.
Then they stuck them in a combination of a wii fit and a massive gimbal system.
I’m still waiting for The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Every 5-10 years someone new grabs the film rights, there’s a buzz about the impending movie, then…nothing.
I always thought Brian Dennehy would be perfect for Inskip, but he’s probably too old now.
Man, I oughta re-read those old books. Lotta memories.
Underrated. I paid money to see it in the theater and probably wouldn’t pay to see it again but it was exactly what I’d hoped for.
Aw, piffle. I admit it was exactly as advertised, but what a wasted opportunity. Definitely one of those movies where I wished I’d been given a crack at the script first.
Damn. Cowboys & Werewolves. I gotta get my version of that made before somebody else wrecks it.
It needed more Gwangi.
Oooohhhh…
Now there’s a movie long overdue for a remake!
Every bit as disappointing a backstory as I could have imagined.

I think it has been pretty well established that you can’t successfully remake a Harryhausen movie.
Also, nobody can fill Gila Golan’s shoes.
Werewolf + Western are two genres that are made for each other and there’s not that many been done yet.
Hmm. I disagree, much as I dearly adore the man’s work. I mean, other than Clash of the Titans and Mighty Joe Young, how many films of his have been remade?
Have there been any? I’d love to see 'em.
I couldn’t think of any other than the recent Penny Dreadful storyline, so I went to the IMDb tag browser. (Keyword werewolf, Genre: Western)
There’s “Mad At The Moon”
And what looks like a really bad Mexican B-Movie that I now need to track down.
Well, there’s Mysterious Island and Jason and the Argonauts. I just think the charm in his movies lies in the artistry of the visual effects, which are just good enough to be believable. Modern CGI is too good.
Dunno about werewolves but there is a vampire western Curse Of The Undead that is just barely watchable. Also the totally psychotronic Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter which is almost as good as the vampire movie.
For a weird west though I think Mike Resnick’s series would be fun screenplay fodder.
ETA yes I have seen both of the movies mentioned. no I am not watching them again at least not while sober.
I’ve seen Billy The Kid vs Dracula long ago. Weren’t no good.
Huh. Didn’t know those got made.
Anyway, I agree about the charm of Harryhausen’s effects work. But Valley of Gwangi is, FX aside, an actually interesting little story that would be great fun to remake. At least as interesting as any of the Jurassic Parks at any rate.
I’m gonna track both of those down! Thanks!
If you’re interested, I wrote a werewolf/Western screenplay a couple years ago. PM me if you want me to send it to you. It’s pretty fun, I think.
