I don’t see as direct a comparison. My younger generation of inlaws are all lapsed members and after wishing their parents wore more clothes lounging around the house, the sacredness of those vestments is rather lost to them.
A turban is definitely much more personal relationship, and calling someone a “raghead” is a far more dehumanizing slur.
Yes there’s disrespect in the magic underwear jab, but not analogous in the level of hatred. Mormons don’t get beaten in the streets (well, anymore), Sikhs do regularly. Near monthly it seems.
