Yep. Somehow the guy thought the Jews nailed Jesus up, and that he was their god.
Speaking of reading comprehension, note that i said the cost of tuition was $5k in my original post. No one was talking about room, board, etc, which are mostly fungible. And if you’re LDS, it doesn’t matter if you’re local or out of state, it’s still $5.3k. But as you said, reading, and math, are hard. Must be that great state school that you went to.
I’ve run into the type all too often, believe me. They’re extremely common among the evangelical set. I’m wondering what further sub-beliefs the fellow may have expressed that are typical among that memeplex.
My particular “favorites” (hyperbole-speaking) are the ones that believe that Judaism is “Ethnic Christianity”, and the “Living Fossil” believers–the ones that believe that the cultural and religious practices of modern day Rabbinic Judaism are identical to those practiced by Jesus. Needless to say, there’s a great deal of overlap between the two.
Aaaaanyway. It’s cheap, it’s excellent education, and the honor code is horrifying.
Easy mistake to make if you live in Utah and rely on a book written by a confidence trickster.
I mean, killing your god is one thing. As was pointed out in the comments above, lots of cultures have that one. But I can’t think of another one that has a weekly thing where they actually eat the god’s flesh and drink his blood. That’s pretty weird.
OCAD or Emily Carr?
They’d be part of the Everybody, yeah.
Except that women are not part of the “everyone” that cartoon was supposedly created for.
It must have been really hard for Jesus to speak in literal terms at times.
Jesus: I have lost one of my sheep.
Apostle: Who among us has strayed? This morning all 13 of us were there, no?
Jesus: I’m talking about an actual sheep you dumbass.
Hey now! Edgy art students have a long & proud history.
Longsleeve bikinis?
Yep. BYU still has a very good computer animation program, and is one of only a few Houdini certified schools.
Doing it weekly is weird, but ritual cannibalism is pretty common.
The “blood and flesh transmuted into wine and food” thing was originally Mithraic, IIRC
As opposed to which non-fake religions?
Jediism?
Religions that came from folklore instead of one guy.
Only Catholics and Orthodox literally believe that. Mainline Protestants say they do bit really don’t. Evangelicals don’t believe it at all.
In principle I agree but I prefer to say “religions that evolved organically and in which doctrine emerged from argument and experience” since many of them were evolved not by folklore but by the best minds of their societies (Judaism, for one.) A lot of real religions show a long term wrestling with philosophical, social and psychological ideas. I defy anyone with a functioning brain and a half decent education to read the Book of Mormon without experiencing a brain bleach sensation due to the mind numbing tedium, relieved only by prophets with funny names (Ether, Moron) and my wondering if even as he wrote it Smith was giggling to himself and saying “bet they’ll even swallow this.”
