Given that “animal, vegetable, or mineral” is based on Linnaean taxonomy, fungi are unequivocally “vegetable”, being assigned by Linnaeus to Cryptogamia in Regnum Vegetabile.
I’d suggest that bacteria are “vegetable” too, having been historically described as “flora”.
I think it would be possible to argue for viruses to be put into any of the three categories.
Every year in Dec we do a white elephant party with friends. A few years ago it was decided that the way to go for our potluck is to also have a baked potato bar. Everyone loves it.
According to my grandparents, back in the day potatoes were the school lunch program. In the winter, they would carry baked ones in their pockets to school, which helped to keep their hands warm. When it was time to eat, they would split them open and sometimes have a bit of salt to add for seasoning.
i feel like i used to see it a lot more when i was younger than i do these days. but then, i only recently learned that butter sticks are shaped different on the east and west coast… and i’ve lived on both coasts and worked in grocery stores on both coasts… so i’m possibly not all that reliable
He’s doon thae sweetie shop, by the looks of it. I’d definitely try one, like. I wonder if the seet shop up the road sells them? We’re only an hour or so from the border
Not really. The Idaho Spud bar may have “spud” in its name, but it doesn’t actually contain any potato.
I don’t think Idaho Spud bars are sold in the UK, but given the great “Welsh Dragon sausage” controversy of some years ago, if they ever did arrive there it’s reasonable to expect that Trading Standards would want to have a chat with the producer.
