That simple possession case isn’t going to rough itself up, citizen.
To your point, though, Arredondo didn’t work for the Uvalde Police Department. He was the chief of the police department of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District. The school district in a town of 15,000 has its own police department. That department absolutely should be disbanded completely.
Off to a new career, then…
Hollywood beckons, chief.
I logged in to make this joke, only to find that it actually happened.
That, right there, is one of the big roots of the broader problem.
WTF business has a school authority got running a fucking police force!?
Not good enough (though I’m not suggesting actual lynching). It wasn’t just a failure to act, which would be bad enough, but every action since then has been an attempt to cover up that failure and to punish and discredit the parents or anyone else critical of the police.
The town I grew up in had a population of 19000 and we just had 1 policeman at all times who was rostered on from the neighbouring city.
Key difference was this was not in the US, our police didn’t need to even carry guns.
