I’ll bet they rounded down from 69.9% just for the headline.

Very misleading post. The abstract clearly says “The association between sildenafil use and decreased incidence of AD does not establish causality, which will require a randomized controlled trial.” As they say, rich guys smoke cigars, but smoking cigars won’t make you rich. Also it’s published in ‘Nature Aging’ which is one of many spin-offs from ‘Nature’ itself, and is probably much less selective than the flagship journal.

In my opinion, Nature Publishing Group has REALLY diluted their brand over the last decade.

The last time this popped up (which was pretty recently, & likely a report on the premature release), there was an obvious alternate interpretation which presented. People who use Sildenafil are probably also more likely than the general population at the same age to have partners, with whom they can have stimulating conversations, & such stimulation is shown to reduce the incidence of Alzheimer’s.

It will require additional research, at least, to determine if we’re just fooling around with a double entendre about data describing the impact of having someone to have deep… conversations with.

Used to be that was mostly just a problem for younger, less experienced scientists.

“These include retinal detachment, when the retina lifts away from the back of the eye; retinal vascular occlusion, when clots block veins in the eye; and ischemic optic neuropathy, when blood stops flowing to the optic nerve. These conditions can come on suddenly, and lead to permanent vision loss if they aren’t treated quickly.“

Stop it or you’ll go blind.

I’m kind of jelly you subscribed to the set of journals. Yeah, tagging articles as representing 5-7 year works that panned out to unflappable certainty hasn’t scaled, and 8 month ones are showing? Interested in Nature Rock Hard Strappin’ Postgrad Gals^WPersons!!! and Nature OMG Resveratrol Doing Heavy Lifting Here111 if you have an institutional share to give away… Or like the Nano and Robotics ones maybe.
