whitehouse has it’s own 5 minute testing machine that costs a fortune and is in desperate need by health care workers elsewhere
but since he could test negative in the morning and positive that night, here’s hoping
there’s also a rumor that he and others in that circle are part of an underground virus-truthers movement, which if even remotely true, well this country is even more doomed
but who are we kidding, anyone trumpkins cares about is going to immediately get the rare and expensive blood-plasma treatment which is instant antibodies, for all we know they both have been already given it, the truth won’t come out for a decade
Pence’s action made the situation unavoidably political. By allowing that ass-clown to middle-finger medical best-practices, the clinic is endorsing Trumpian values over elementary patient & public safety.
I’d love to know what went on behind the scenes. Was it just a quiet rollover or was there a lot of back and forth negotiation leading to a final ultimatum from the White House?
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Through no fault of their own, the Mayo Clinic finds itself in a position where any position they take will be interpreted through a partisan ideological lens. Speak out against Pence and incur the wrath of the pettiest, most vengeful Administration in American history or remain silent and be accused of “endorsing Trumpian values.” They have no good options.
Pence’s implied middle finger may have had a little something to do with that. Think Mafia. This administration is very good at Mafia style shake downs. For example:
Pence is just a kid . I blame bad parenting on the part of the Mayo Clinic. They knew the rules, and yet they chose deliberately not to impress them upon their charge.
Or, perhaps, is it because he represents all the fekkin’ idiots who are welcoming this as their much anticipated “end times” and the equally stupid “rapture”.
Dangerous death cult is dangerous.
I have some relevant experience here – Indiana is where he’s from, after all, and this is exactly how many Hoosiers are ignoring the distancing requirements – so I can tell you that it would evoke an automatic reflex if he did that to me: I would back up quickly, hands up in defensive position, with a look of horror on my face. Why no one in that scenario reacted to protect themselves, I cannot fathom.
And by choosing an accomodationist response, the politics of that response emboldens Trumpian miscreants while directly undermining the medical best-practices nation-leading institutions like the Mayo Clinic have been fighting to have adopted country-wide.
Simply put, when someone forces the politicization of a circumstance, it is not incumbent on the engaged party to opt for the worst available political response.
In fact, some might call refusing to cowtow to political blackmail bravery, or maybe that’s just me.
I think it’s a visually striking picture. It’s rare to see the distilled essence of any human attribute to forcefully presented. This is a perfect illustration of the absolute fool archetype.
The monies & materials were, past-tense, distributed.
Returning Pence’s fuck you with a “and fuck you, sir” changes nothing that has already happened. It does, however, change how things may play-out on the political stage going forward.
That’s why people love Fauci & ridicule Birx. Fauci shows he’s got a spine, though not enough for my personal liking whereas Birx is a joke, wholly ineffectual while also enabling real harm be done to Americans.
Precisely. Pence has given his unwavering support to everything Trump has said and done since day one. Wearing a mask when Trump has already said he won’t would be treason in Pence’s mind.
The Mayo Clinic gets hundreds of millions in research funding from tax dollars each year.
Speaking out against Pence now for his dumb-ass refusal to wear a mask could endanger that research—including research on fighting Covid-19—because that’s the dystopian timeline we live in today.
You want to condemn the Mayo Clinic for trying to sidestep the political controversy instead of taking a principled stand, fine; but don’t pretend that the ethics surrounding the decision are black-and-white. Angering the orange buffoon over this could easily cost lives.
Under most circumstances I am actually okay with that. Let’s say Obama was president during this pandemic, I doubt there would be as much consternation. You don’t want your elected leaders or highest ranking officials going down. In this case however…
Battling conspiracy theory with more conspiracy theory is a bad tack. Trump and his inner circle are simply trying to play both sides. Do something that was advisable in hindsight (restrict travel to China) and you can glad hand yourself for it at every presser. But you can also go around maskless and encourage people to violate their states’ lockdowns.
“And since I don’t have the coronavirus, I thought it’d be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible health care personnel, and look them in the eye and say thank you.”
Was he under the impression that thing was a BLINDFOLD?
