Where’d Pence ever got that idea

Look him in the eye? Did he shoot the gun out of his hand too?
The only thing more laughable than Trumpian flunkies is the lame excuses of the Trumpian flunkies.
Even behind a Level-5 PPE, you can see it’s Putin from his “lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes” eyes.
I think it’s appropriate to add a dildo gag to Pence’s mask. And say “Don’t worry; it’s standard equipment, Mr. Vice-President.”
The orange buffoon, VP lickspittal and the rest of the Executive Branch psychophants have already cost America tens of thousands of lives.
That’s as black & white as a fact can get.
Worse, also a black & white fact, is that tens of thousands of more Americans will die because of actions taken - to include non-action actions such as refusing to adhere to medical experts’ best-practices.
Pence’s actions were just as reckless, dangerous and politically motivated as are Trump’s when he riffs on ingesting bleach, dropping maleria drugs or treating one’s self like a black-lite poster all in the name of fuck experts, fuck libs, fuck any constraint on my id!
Lastly, Pence declaring himself to be covid free should carry ZERO credibility coming from a man and an administration that lies as frequently as it breathes.
So, when lying, shit-stick, anti-humane politicians like Pence choose to whip it out in public simply because he (and all like him) believes he can, its our responsibility to kick these sorry SOBs right in the nuts because we can AND because its right!
To my eye, Pence’s behavior will end up catalyzing even more of the behaviors that will - not might - lead to more deaths in the immediate future. Deaths that the Mayo clinic’s research on societal best-practices would prevent were the researchers’ conclusions abided by even at this advanced date in the pandemic.
In the end, the only potential upside to Pence’s action would be a positive covid diagnosis for the VP a week or so from today.
Mike, Mikey [snaps fingers] Mikey bubby, Mother-says wash your hands after going outside.
You and me have the luxury of being able to do that without risking hundreds of millions in funding for research to fight deadly diseases. We can and should do “the right thing” without causing negative consequences for ourselves and others by loudly condemning not just Pence’s idiocy, but the clusterfuck that has been this administration’s response to the pandemic from day one.
The Mayo Clinic is not in quite the same situation as you and me.
Anyone not masked in public, let alone in a medical setting, delivers a clear message: They don’t give a shit whether you live or die. When the thug in the White House tells Americans to drink or inject poison, it’s another clear message: He wants you dead. Tell your COVID-doubting acquaintances they’re expendable.
Remember that time when pence copied Trump by mimicking Trump’s peculiar removal of his water bottle from a conference table? He’s literally that much of a suck up.
Perhaps the Secret Service aiming guns at them kept them still.
My sister used to live in Columbus. She’s safely back in Canada but was talking with a friend there recently. My sister (and I) was amazed to hear that wearing a mask in Ohio is considered a political statement.
You’re right, Mayo’s executives aren’t in the same position as you or I. They bear greater responsibility to act in defense of their research, their experts and their institution’s position as a leaders in the American healthcare hierarchy.
What Mayo’s execs have done is to confirm in a very public manner that the rich and the politically powerful need not adhere to the same best medical practices that apply to the rest of the citizenry. Even worse, by conceding to the id-driven outbursts of an ideologue, they’ve given the OK to all of the “deplorables” who worship at the alter of Trumpian self-indulgence. Pence’s Mayo-blessed act of “fuck the libs” will motivate more resistance and out-right refusal of Mayo-endorsed social distancing guidelines which will result in a greater number of dead than would otherwise have occurred - regardless of Mayo’s present or future funding.
Frankly, the fact that an action will result in more deaths now, a black & white fact, versus the portent of government funding cuts should be descision no more difficult than a lay-up. Pence’s visit to Mayo was in no way a surprise, in other words it was planned & scheduled - a bout of coordination & negotiation that occurred well outside the public’s eye. Behind closed doors, Mayo’s execs should have demanded that Pence conform to best-practices or forego the photo op. I’m sure that White House negotiators played the money card, if not explicitly then certainly via strong insinuation. Such situations are exactly the reason (at least in buz mgmt theory) why executives such as those leading Mayo “make the big bucks!”
I’m well aware that Mayo’s leaders aren’t politically naive, the institution wouldn’t be what it is otherwise. That said, there’s no way Mayo’s leaders, BoD members, high dollar private donors and the rest of the institution’s are so politically dysfunctional that they’d fail to understand the real societal damage done by kowtowing to Trumpertantrums.
I’m not saying it would be an easy call, but there are reasons - real and fabricated - why executives of high profile orgs are paid 6 or 7 figure salaries. If they can’t or won’t protect their institution’s standing or the actual lives of their actual on-ward patients, then why pay them at all?
Capitulation is a gift card Trump and company will cash-out to the tune of thousands of lives and just as many if not more votes.
The truth is, Pence’s face is a mask.
Now that there’s precedent, right-wing anti-lockdown nutters will no doubt follow the advice of Arizona’s GOP party chair and don hospital scrubs as protest costumes that - in tribute to Pence - will be marked-up with the Mayo Clinic’s logo.
Must think he has some sort of divine power. I despair!
I admit it would only be slightly more bizarre than him refusing to wear one. (I mean, what is he trying to prove here???) but I must say I don’t really understand what you mean…
Ball gag. That’s what’s needed. Where’s @beschizza when you need him?
I don’t really understand what you mean…
Trump is on record as saying he would not wear a mask (in general - maybe he WOULD wear one in a situation like Pence was in, but read on …) and Pence, being dumber than fuck and not wishing to be seen to contradict the boss, refuses to wear one too.
Extrapolate this scenario only slightly and it is not beyond credibility that someone close to Trump at the White House told him not to wear one so as not to embarrass/be seen to be publicly contradicting Trump’s position.

At least he is showing judgment consistent with his administration’s position: face down in a pile of horse dung telling everyone it’s chocolate mousse.
