Apparently it’s pretty common for mahouts to sleep close by thier elephants. An ex of mine moved to an elephant sanctuary. She told me a story of a mahout who tied up his elephant for the night and snuck off to see his girlfriend. The elephant was none to pleased about this, got free, found the mahout and proceeded to demolish the house about them while they were in bed together.
