Ever since Blair brought in the spin doctors, British politics has only been this: endless schemes to appear to the public like people with integrity and a sense of duty. I don’t know why this is so effective. You’d think the electorate would be exhausted by the chancers and realise it is much easier to deal with people who actually want to serve their country.
