I imagine there is someone out there that only knows David Lynch from The Straight Story and decides to watch the rest of his work looking for more wholesome Disney fun only to find surrealist rabbits, the lady in the radiator, and animated one-armed duck-fuckers

The same thing happened to John Waters. People saw Hairspray and thought he made charming, antiracist musicals. They saw Pink Flamingos on the shelf, rented it then decided to complain about an indecent film at the local video store. He eventually started pleading “no contest” whenever someone else would sue him.
