Glad this story didn’t end in needless tragedy, as they usually do…
Looks like the guy was in a do-or-die situation as he was locked in with the gunman.
Yeah, it looks like fighting the gunman was definitely not his first choice (maybe not even his second), but I certainly can’t blame him for that. You did good, guy.
You know what they say: The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun his bare goddamn hands. This guy could teach the Uvalde police a thing or two.
Yep. This scenario is far more common in mass shootings than the “good guy with a gun” resolution - which almost never happens, even when bystanders have guns.
Yeah, it just means he’s actually got a functional self-preservation instinct… (and it made him “not a threat” so the gunman relaxed and wasn’t pointing the gun at him, ironically leaving the guard in the position to actually take him down).
Mmm, I’m not sure about that. I’m only speculating of course, but it looks like maybe his first move was not to open the door behind him to escape, but to slap something beside the door. An alarm? An emergency lock? And his second move… I don’t think he was trying to leap over the counter, but maybe was looking for something to use as a weapon, or maybe just trying to shoo the other workers towards safety.
That’s some very impressive situational awareness from the guard, and some great “gun-control”. I’m so glad that things went well for the guard and the other people in the clinic; and that it was a less than ideal result for the fucking shitstain welding the gun.
He locked the door and shut the window BEFORE he tackled the guy. He saved lives by putting his at risk.
He locked the door and pushed closed the window, from what I could see.
That too.
Another fine example of an obviously very responsible gun owner.

Guy’s a real hero. That work place better take care of him. Big, big bonus and raise.
Hell - throw in a parade.
Hunna-P!
Attention gun-happy would-be Rambos: this is what being a hero actually looks like! (Not strutting around and posing with your AR-variant, body armor, and skull facemask, talking big.)
Would have been an awful shame if he had been shot with his own gun, fell into the Hudson, and the video was erased.
It’d be quite the feat if he managed to make it to the other side of the state during his post-gunshot fall.
On topic, an image of those involved in the incident that’s been making the rounds on social media:
That was a really great move on the part of the guard. Everyone was very lucky that the shooter there had a moment of hesitation where he was building up his courage to take fatal shots. That hesitation saved the situation. Just amazing reaction of the guard. Did he practice this scenario mentally before it happened? He must have.
Seems like that, or maybe just a moment of decision making.
I don’t think that is what happened. Doors lock from the inside.
Still, he reacted quickly and was able to stop the guy from doing any more harm.
If he is truly an in-house security guard that might happen @KathyPartdeux but if he works for a outside security agency his actions will probably be disavowed by that company and he’ll be fired. This would allow that corporate entity to distance itself from any lawsuits the gunman or his family will definitely bring forward.
So, we don’t need more guns to stop guns.
The good guy WITHOUT a gun saves the day.
