Watch inept boaters catch air and lose passengers at this Boca Raton inlet

Every sailor knows that the sea
Is a friend made enemy

And @robertmckenna

(And I guess this is not a video from Echo Beach and there is no Katrina.)

Not necessarily

Is that the Giraffe from Ipanema?

@DukeTrout
Watching @inactivist’s video I was thinking I’d rather be going out through those waves than coming in with them behind me. Your Depoe Bay video kinda confirmed that.

Thanks. I’ll edit it to correct.

Speaking of boating: The Onion - Black Lives Matter Organizer Explains Movement To Older White Americans Using Sailing Metaphors To Make Them Feel More Comfortable

Yes it is shallow causing most of the high waves although a good number of large boats are making high wake which doesn’t help conditions, chalk it up to lack of experience and or regard for smaller boats. I always wear a PFD and have valid boaters license.

No need for a rule: the invisible hand takes care of it.

(Yesbut - the Js were designed and built in the 1930s, modern builds and reproductions notwithstanding.)

You are correct - timeless elegance of a bygone era and all that - but the question was only posed as a price one, not a time one.

I’m sure I could find some modern yacht (sail and motor) designs that are eye-wateringly expensive and beautiful, though.
Riva yachts, for example. The Italians seem quite good at this.
Riva were responsible for this classic, of course.]

Actually, very few contemporary sailboats match the aesthetic appeal of the old wooden boats, though advances in fluid dynamics, marine architecture, and material sciences mean boats go faster theses days:

Well modern racing yachts are like Formula 1 cars - built for air- and water-efficiency, not looks. (No, I did not mean ‘water-efficiency’ to apply to F1 cars!!)

But modern cruising yachts (with sails) are in many cases pretty pretty. There’s a few fugly ones but the function sort of dictates a pleasing form. There’s a couple of very good lookers here.

It does tend to be the non-sail boats that attract the ugly lumps and bumps.

Oh, you want to see some pretty new boats?

I think that first one was in my last link above.

We’re threadjacking, but what do you think of the new Cup boats?

That doesn’t look like any fun at all. I wonder what the attraction is?

Not seen any for 2021 yet, but watched last one with fascinated interest.

Basically, F1 design ethos, on water!

You’re talking about the nouveau-riche, right? /s

Despite the fact that it’s dangerous af, and falling overboard means “yeah, you’re dead”, it otherwise looks like a HELLUVA LOT OF FUN.

Would it be unAmerican to have a speed limit though that section?

The trouble is that speed is often the safer way to get through waves like that.
