DOOM was your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. A wordsmith of the highest order and a true artist, with phrasing that could rival the greats of jazz (while being alternately hilarious or deeply insightful). The world lost a genius when he left the planet. Mos knows.

In case anyone missed Open Mike Eagle’s tremendous What Had Happened Was podcast (Season 1: Prince Paul, Season 2: El-P), DOOM comes up twice: at the beginning of El-P’s R.A.P. Music episode (recorded just after DOOM’s death was announced) and the previous year in Prince Paul’s 3rd Bass/DOOM/Paul Barman episode (the DOOM section starts around 20 minutes in).
