Died on Halloween, death reported on New Years Eve. I want to believe this is a stunt but I doubt it is.

There might have been good reason for his family to withhold the news, of course. It could have just been that his widow wanted some time before having to deal with the inevitable requests for interviews, etc. When someone you love dies, it’s exhausting all on it’s own, I can imagine losing someone that many others in the world also love can double or triple that.

I was talking with someone at one of his labels, and apparently the family kept it a secret even from his US business partners-- they were caught flat-footed, unprepared for the inevitable rush of orders for his back catalogue.
