I’ve used Thompson’s Water Seal on brickwork. I never even thought of leaving an invisible message. Damn.
Paraffin is even cheaper, and available at the supermarket.
Geocachers have been doing this for about a dozen years now, using stuff like Thompson’s Water Seal to write clues than can only be seen when the surface is wet.
