When I first heard of the prison sentences I assumed the video would be salacious, with lots of butt shaking and some bare flesh. Instead it is a rather innocuous music video near a memorial that the State couldn’t be bothered to maintain in better shape. The State is rather opportunistic in what it considers to be “disrespect”. They probably filmed proletariat tractor porn there back in the day…

We seem to punish this sort of thing by overreacting on Twitter and Facebook.

Russia, passing the US in stupidity.

If those women are amateurs, that’s a pretty great performance. The Russian Government should hire them to be the National Twerk Team, and the women should decline.

So, they have been twerking so hard that the monument did collapse?

When twerking is outlawed, only outlaws…

Ah, never mind. Fuck it.

We learn in the memoirs of Comrade Brezhnev, for which he received the Lenin Prize, that Malaya Zemlya was the turning part of the entire war agaist the Nazi Fascists. It is a deeply hurtful libel against Blood and Soil to use this venu for decadent Western “art.”

About a month ago, a dance school in Orenburg was closed because of outrage over a twerky performance. Some of the participants were even jailed over it, supposedly on charges of “debauchery”. Most of the comments I’ve seem about this netside are far more angry that the dance happened than they are that people have jailed over doing this, at a dance school of all places. I am still trying to fathom how clothed dance with no partner can possible be classified as debauched.

Given the jail sentences and claims of disrespect that’s what I expected to see at the memorial, but didn’t. The Orenburg dance is really overtly sexual. The memorial one is almost nothing like the Orenburg one.

I like the dance at the memorial much more, but I still don’t understand what people find particularly sexual about twerk. IMO it seems like a random thing to get upset about. Much of the uproar I’ve seen blames it on US pop culture, although I’d bet this style is more Caribbean/South American/African. Apparently, people will stamp ideology on anything!

The basic biology mechanics of sexual intercourse (how the parts fit together) should be sufficient to explain it.

If one chooses to think about it this way. But I don’t understand why they would, since there are no parts being fit together. Since this is only happening in the imagination, I dismiss most of the critics as merely having prurient mindsets. XD It’s not unlike the quaint 1950s frenzy over kids dancing to rock music.

Couples dancing, such as tango, I think is far more sexual. Yet I never hear of people complaining about it.

Likewise, this is just a banana lamp(switch):

I take it you’ve never danced a proper tango. (-;
