Watch the climax of Star Wars alongside an audience from 1977

One thing that really tickles me in the recording is the response of the person I’m assuming is the recorder’s mother. She’s obviously enjoying the movie, but you can also hear her “grown-up mom’s” appreciation for and amusement about what the movie is doing. Another reason the movie was such an overwhelming success: it hit the bullseye no matter what level you viewed it at.

Appreciation of the show, even if it’s just being communicated to the rest of the audience. It doesn’t happen often, though.

(Personally, I’ve only ever applauded whenI’ve been lucky enough to get tickets to a premiere or preview screening. Once or twice, there were cast members present. In that case? Yeah, I’m applauding for them.)
