I didn’t think that those tanks were supposed to leak when tilted on their side. And there should be a metal ring around the valve to prevent it being damaged in case it falls over.
Hmm.
The word of the day is BLEVE.
Safety first was not on the menu that day. Singed eyebrows were though…
40-pound propane tank
If it was, then there’s something wrong with the gas cylinder. In the event of a fire, they’re designed to fail and vent in a controlled manner.
As kids we used to blow up butane cartridges by stacking the concave underside with a pyrotechnic mixture (usually sugar plus sodium chlorate, which back in the day any teenager could purchase at a garden store). So this video brings back happy memories!
Were they carrying any barrels as well?
That’s what I thought too. But maybe, as it was inside the truckbed, that prevented the gas from escaping and also provided the right amount of fuel/air mix to cause that explosion - which probably went up rather than out. Looks like a new truck is needed tho.
Shhhh, we’re about to see a natural wonder: a red-shirt transitioning to the next phase of his life – a blast shadow.
Oh great, it’s propane related.
The other half refuses to transport the cylinders in their car. If they ever see this they never will.
Stopping near a bunch of people to lash down a poorly secured dangerous load–thanks, guys!
It looks like the kid on the left is quite ready to put out any errant fires.
For a kid, there is no such thing as an errant fire!
