Looks like heat from the lava set fire to something volatile which came off the walking boot.
Probably best to check for erosion before trying that trick again.
Refreshing to see a game of “the floor is lava” played with actual lava. Takes me back to my carefree youth in Iceland…

I knew a guy who grew up in Hawaii, and he liked to go to slow lava flows and play in it with a shovel, and watch pennies melt into it. Surprisingly, he didn’t have any visible burn scars.

Walking over over cooled lava can do a real number on hiking boots. A’a especially chews up boots but even pahoehoe has lots of little sharp bits.
Yeah it probably hasn’t had a chance to erode flat yet.
