The turntable is amazing, but it’s only one part of a larger collaborative mechanism that allows the show live up to the hype. For example, here’s the stage manager calling the cues in one of the numbers where the turntable is integral.

I saw a video (I think on Twitter?) of the sound engineer for Hamilton mixing the show, which is even crazier. For a show of that caliber, it’s usually done line-by-line, raising the faders for each part as they sing and dropping them while others are singing (fewer open mics = less chance of feedback, phasing, lower noise floor). It looked almost like he was playing a piano.
Wish I could find it…
